Her name says is all; “2KOOOL” which is exactly how we feel
about each and every one of these gals that we see.
These gals are far more than the sum total of their parts
but rather a dream that became an supercar reflective of days gone past
placed smack dab in the middle of an arena full of other supercars. These
gals are not only unique but also a masterpiece to look at and a dream
realized for all when they get behind the wheel and exercise them. These
gals are likely the closest thing one can come to a full blown race car
with a legal license plate on their tail that feels just as at home going
on an ice cream run or at speed on the back straightaway of one of the
extreme road courses around the world. These are truly the “real deal”.
So to us these gals will forever be referred to as “2KOOOL” with one of
the most significant reasons being that Ford was gracious enough to build
a hand full of them; this alone is truly “2KOOOL”
This particular gal came to us after having some very nice personal tweak
items already tended to such as the huge polished Whipple supercharger, Ford
Racing headers, and a Borla muffler.
During her stay with us we have be given the opportunity to massage her
a bit more; we will be integrating the wonderful Penske remote reservoir
suspension system with custom powder coated springs, Heffner's cat back exhaust
with a pair of custom Shadowman baffles integrated so as to take the edge
off her vocal bite, new and more aggressive brake pads, a stem to stern service
which will include a fresh load of fluids, her nose will be wrapped in plastic,
and a new shoe will be installed once a minor chip is taken care of on one
of her feet.
We have been massaging this gal during the week and
one of the issues noticed once we removed her damaged under body panel
was a significant amount of oil. The under body panels were damaged as
the direct result of another facility improperly lifting her; sadly we
have seen this many times. Now as for the oil leak; it turned out to
be as the result of a cut o-ring on the speed sensor; likely when it
was removed it to add transaxle fluids during the installation of the
transaxle cooler and then when they noticed it was damaged they used
silicon or ? in an attempt to fix the problem.
Here is the speed sensor prior to us removing it; you can
see the oil and the paltry attempt to seal it. All of this for a very inexpensive
item.
This gal has Ford Racing long tube headers that by design
are very close to the starter solenoid as such we make it a practice
to install a Mylar heat shield on all that we install as well as those
that come through the facility for service
Here is the Penske suspension system being made ready
to integrate into the gal. In this case the gal's owner had the springs
powder coated so as to tie in with her exterior color
Here the OEM rear bumper has been removed as we begin
the process of integrating the CDC bumper delete system. With this system
we will be removing the OEM rear bumper extensions and replacing them
with custom rear frame extensions designed for the bumper delete system
Here we are methodically working through rear bumper delete
conversion process during which time we use liberal amounts of protective
tape, paper, and blankets so as to insure that no secondary damage is caused.
Here the rear bumper delete conversion has been completed
however we still need to integrate the yet to be painted filler panel and
the custom aluminum lower mesh panel. We also fit the thermal coated Heffner
cat back exhaust in place so as to confirm the fit as a component of the
system. This particular exhaust was designed specifically for the bumper
delete gals. Next we will be fabricating a set of baffles that will be
inserted prior to the final installation of the Heffner exhaust so as to
take the edge aka bite off the exhaust so that whether on the street or
the track the music created will be enjoyed.
During our time with this gal we are completing
a stem to stern checkup which includes looking for pending issues, checking
hardware; both that it is there and properly secured, and also previous
repair work to verify that everything is as it should be.
While looking around the gal this heat shield caught our
attention. It is from the underside of the right aka passenger half-shaft.
Now we do not know the history but it would appear that either the half
shaft came lose at one time or during a previous half-shaft hardware recall
repair that the half-shaft was wedge against it during the process. Regardless
it needed to be corrected because of how it looked as well as the fact
that it was resting on the Ford racing long tube headers.
Here is the heat shield after we completed the repair process;
a combination of hand work and a roller has it good as new.
Here we are fabricating and inserting a pair of custom baffles
into the Heffner cat back exhaust. This gal is a total free breather as
such the baffles were decided upon so as to take a bit of her bit out of
her bark.
Here the CDC bumper delete system is being integrated for
the final time. After several dry fits and then having completed the paint
work it is time.
Here the CDC bumper delete system along with the Heffner
cat back exhaust have been fully integrated
Here she is receiving a new oil filter and new oil as she
is being made ready for her participation at the Ford GT Rally in Las Vegas
Here her at risk body panels are being methodically wrapped
in clear plastic. In this case we elected to completely wrap her nose including
the entire front fenders, the greater portion of the roof, in front of
and behind the rear wheels, the entire rocker panels, the mirrors, and
the leading edge on the side air scoops.
Now we are going to integrate the
Penske suspension system which is the final piece of this project. During
this process we will also be detailing engine bay so that once completed
she be as crisp as the day she was born.
Here we are painting the rear shock uprights prior to
integrating the Penske suspension
Here the rear Penske suspension system has been integrated
along with the cool Stillen remote reservoir mounts
Here the front of the gal is being made ready to have
the Penske suspension system integrated
Here the front Penske suspension system has been fully
integrated. In this case we secured the remote reservoirs to the cowl
with heavy duty Velcro. This process insures that the canisters will
remain in place and yet remain serviceable if needed.
Once this project was completed and she was made ready to be exercised
instead of shipping her back home her owner elected to drive several
hours so that he could in fact exercise her a bit.
Upon his arrival there was little doubt that he was happy and that she
was ready to go play and then once she was brought to life you could
feel his smile and sense the excitement build as it was time to begin
her exercise routine.
