BackTestarossa: Phase Eight

Phase Eight

We have been busy carefully tending to one secondary system at a time as we methodically prepare this gal for another season of being exercised.

Here we have installed the powers steering pump and the dry sump hoses; the blue tape was used to protect the heat reflecting foil sheathing during this process as it is very easy to cosmetically damage it.

Here we are applying the proper torque to the AccuFab furnished ARP bolts. The recommended torque process as used is two steps with an initial torque of 30 ft lb being applied and then a final torque of 55 ft lb.

Here we are associating the Ford Racing transaxle cooler hoses to the OEM transaxle.

Here we have fully integrated the OEM wiring harness as well as the upper radiator hoses and supercharger vacuum lines.

We have properly routed and secured the shifter cables as such we are now able to install the transaxle cross member. There are several pieces of blue tape visible in these pictures; it is there in some cases to protect a surface from cosmetic damage and in other instances it is a reminder that a piece of hardware still needs the final torque applied once everything is in its proper operational position.

We continue the methodical process of reassembling this gal during which we also tend to any areas requiring additional detailing such as cleaning and paint so that once fully assembled it will appear that her heart was never removed. The following are a collection of pictures taken during some of the many steps involved with this phase of the project. We have installed the oil filter adapter, a new OEM oil filter, the oil cooler, and the A/C compressor leaving only the dry sump oil tank to be installed at this time. We have also pressure tested both the primary and the supercharger cooling systems to insure that there were no leaks and then using the factory recommended Airlift system we vacuumed both systems down to approximately 28 inches of vacuum and then through the process of using the vacuum as created the fresh OEM coolant and distilled water mix was drawn into the system thus insuring that it remained absent of air pockets. Then as a final measure we added Redline Water Wetter to both systems.
Here are the pictures of many of the steps taken during the reassembly processes. As always we use both great care and roll after roll of protective tape and paper to insure that no secondary damage is caused. This gal had the custom vacuum/boost gauge as created by Michael aka FreeFlyer integrated however during the reassembly process we routed the custom wiring harness in a different manner as such we had to cut the plug end off the MAP sensor and installed new terminals with the custom wiring harness now being the adjusted proper length.

Here she is ready to receive her dry sump oil tank and then the engine final braces, new trim below her rear window, and Shadowman's custom fire suppression system. We will also be installing a new OEM accessory drive and supercharger belt and then prior to bringing her back to life we will prime her heart by mechanically/remotely spinning the dry sump pump; this will be done without the use of the OEM starter so that there is no risk that she will inadvertently come to life before the priming of her heart has been completed.
